Trump suffers double blow in bid to overturn election results

Image
President Donald Trump’s desperate bid to overturn the November 3 election results was dealt a double blow on Friday after officials in the battleground state of Georgia certified Joe Biden’s win and top Republican legislators in Michigan said they had no information that would warrant reversing the outcome of the vote in that state. While Biden is preparing to take office on January 20,Trump has refused to concede and his team is seeking to invalidate or reverse the results through lawsuits, recounts and undermining the certification of results in some states, claiming – without proof – widespread voter fraud. Trump’s critics have called the effort an unprecedented push by a sitting president to subvert the will of the voters. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced on Friday that a manual recount and audit of all ballots cast in the southern state had determined that Biden was the winner. Biden is the first Democrat to carry Georgia since 1992. “The numbers refle...

And we’re just getting started.” The foursome, who have collective achieved a level of political celebrity, have often f...

An old clip of the Vermont senator and former Democratic presidential candidate on The Tonight Show in October is doing the rounds as we await results of the U.S. election — despite Donald Trump's unfounded and false claims of early victory.  Click to Watch In the Oct. 23 interview, Sanders explained to host Jimmy Fallon why he endorsed Biden for president after running against him for the nomination and discussed the role of Texas in the future of progressive politics. But most importantly, he laid out why this year's election results would take longer than usual — and what Trump's reaction on election ni...

Trump calls for halt in vote count, asserts fraud in elections

President Donald Trump early Wednesday addressed supporters at a White House gathering, asserting election fraud on the part of Democrats and boasting of an inevitable victory, all the while appearing intent on girding his base for fights that he threatened to take to the Supreme Court.  "This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country," Trump said from the East Room of the White House, emerging to the strains of "Hail to the Chief" before speaking at a podium positioned in front of a Trump-Pence campaign banner. "We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election." By early Wednesday, neither Trump nor Joe Biden had reached the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win. Yet Trump touted his victories in Florida, Texas and Ohio and predicted future wins in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. "They can't catch us," Trump said. His vague pronouncements that voting had continued after ...
