Putin expresses his willingness to work with Biden if elected as President

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he’s aware Joe Biden has made sharp anti-Russian statements, but is open to working with him if he’s elected president, citing that the Democratic Party shares many of his ideals.

Putin also said on Sunday that he saw nothing criminal in Hunter Biden’s past business ties with Ukraine or Russia, marking out his disagreement with one of Donald Trump’s attack lines in the US presidential election.

Putin was responding to comments made by Trump during televised debates with Democratic challenger Joe Biden ahead of the November 3 election.

Trump, who is trailing in opinion polls, has used the debates to make accusations that Biden and his son Hunter engaged in unethical practices in Ukraine, while no evidence has been verified to support the allegations.

Putin added that he believes the Democratic party espouses ideals closer aligned to the politics of Europe.

“The Democratic Party is traditionally closer to the so-called liberal values, closer to Social Democratic ideas, if compared to Europe. And it was from the Social Democratic environment that the Communist Party evolved,” he said.

Putin then claimed to adhere to left-wing values shared by some in the US Democratic Party.

“I was a member of the Soviet Communist Party for nearly 20 years, or more precisely 18 years. I was a rank-and-file member, but it can be said that I believed in the party’s ideas,” Putin said.

“I still like many of these left-wing values. Equality and fraternity. What is bad about them? In fact, they are akin to Christian values,” he added.

Putin added that Biden calling Trump “Putin’s puppy” was actually a compliment to Russia.

“This actually enhances our prestige, because they are talking about our incredible influence and power,” he said.
