Amnesty International: If Saudi wants to clean its image, it must release women rights experts

As Saudi Arabia was heading to host the virtual G20 summit this year amidst the pandemic, Amnesty International's Middle East regional director Lynn Maalouf called on the kingdom to release women rights defenders unconditionally.

Many of the activists in Saudi Arabia are currently detained, on trial or facing travel bans for their peaceful activism. 

Several women’s rights activists detained during a wave of arrests last year endured torture, sexual abuse and other forms of ill-treatment during the first three months of their detention. They were detained with no access to their families or lawyers.
